Student success on Abertay Mentoring Programme celebrated
The success of students completing the Mentoring Programme at Abertay University was celebrated last night (Wednesday 4 June) by businesses and organisations they have worked with to improve their employability.
Staff from organisations including NCR, HMRC, Department for Work & Pensions, ITN, Police Scotland, NHS Tayside and Thorntons Law have mentored the students over a six-month period.
Abertay’s Alumni & Development Office and Careers Centre worked with the National Mentoring Consortium to identify current third-year students and match them with mentors who can help with their professional development.
Dr Alastair Robertson, Director of Learning & Teaching Enhancement at Abertay University, said: “We’re delighted to see how much the Abertay students have developed in six months of professional mentoring.
“Working with professionals from a variety of organisations like NCR, HMRC and NHS Tayside has given our students a direct understanding of what it takes to succeed in today’s working environment – in turn significantly improving their employability.
“The Abertay Mentoring Programme has also helped us to extend the ‘Abertay family’ to include our graduates and local partner organisations. Everyone has been working together to give our students the very best career opportunities.”
The scheme aims to improve the employability of current students, and is looking to expand to include more Abertay graduates and more local businesses and organisations next year.
Students on the Abertay Mentoring Programme came from a diverse range of subjects, including Psychology; Human Resource Management; Food Nutrition & Health; Web Design & Development; International Economics & Management; Accounting with Finance; Business Studies; Criminological Studies; Computer Arts and Biomedical Sciences.
