The chief executive of global energy services company Wood Group has led a master class for students yesterday (Wednesday 19 March) at Abertay University’s Dundee Business School.

Bob Keiller is an internationally respected businessman who was worked in the oil and gas industry since 1986.

He spoke to Abertay’s business students about the importance of values in business, drawing on decades of success in business leadership – and answering the students’ questions as they prepare for their own careers.

Bob became CEO of Wood Group in November 2012, having served previously as CEO of Wood Group PSN. He led the management buyout of PSN from Halliburton in 2006 and its subsequent sale to Wood Group in 2011.

Bob Keiller said after the visit: "Engaging with students is always stimulating. It was great to be able to share my experiences and stories with the students and staff at Abertay University – some of the questions really made me think!"

Professor Sabine Hotho, Head of Dundee Business School, said: “It is a huge privilege for our students to meet a business leader as successful and inspiring as Bob Keiller, and to learn first-hand from his experiences at the highest levels of the oil and gas industry.

“We’re focused on preparing all of our students – from school leavers to mature students and professionals studying with us part-time – to reach their potential in whatever business sector they choose.

“Learning directly from someone like Bob helps our students see just how much they can achieve, if they continue to work hard and apply themselves to their professional development.”

He was a member of the UK cross-industry Step Change in Safety Leadership Team and led the UK Helicopter Task Group formed in 2009 to accelerate safety improvements in air safety. He is a former chairman of the Aberdeen & District Round Table and the Entrepreneurial Exchange.

Bob's awards include Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006 and 2008, Scottish Businessman of the Year in 2007 and Grampian Industrialist of the Year in 2008. In 2009 he was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the oil & gas industry at the Scottish Offshore Achievement Awards.
