Tonight the success of students completing the Mentoring Programme at the University of Abertay Dundee will be celebrated by business representatives they have worked with to improve their employability.

Staff from companies including BT, HM Revenue & Customs, and Royal Bank of Scotland have mentored the students over a six-month period.

Abertay’s Graduate Association and Careers Centre have worked with the National Mentoring Consortium to identify current third-year students and match them with mentors who can help with their professional development.

Carol Ann Smith, Abertay University’s Development Manager, said: “We’re delighted to see how much the Abertay students have developed in six months of professional mentoring.

“Working with professionals from prestigious companies like BT and Royal Bank of Scotland has given our students a direct understanding of what it takes to succeed in today’s business environment – in turn significantly improving their employability.

“The Abertay Mentoring Programme has also helped us to extend the ‘Abertay family’ to include our graduates and local partner organisations, with everyone working together to give these young people the very best career opportunities.”

The scheme aims to improve the employability of current students, and is looking to expand to include more Abertay graduates and more local businesses next year.

Students on the Abertay Mentoring Programme came from a diverse range of subjects, including Biomedical Science, Food, Nutrition & Health, and Law.
