Students gain support from mentors through work placement project6 March 2013

Students taking part in the major Scottish work placement project Education into Enterprise will now have support from graduate mentors to assist in their successful employability project experience.
A further 15 students are set to receive awards tonight (Wednesday 6 March) at the University of Abertay Dundee.
This includes a student who has undertaken a business analysis for a local private company, a student who completed an IT networking project for a social care charity, and students who have completed scientific analysis on behalf of a local social enterprise.
Dr June Leishman, Head of UK Academic Partnerships at Abertay University, said: “We’re delighted to congratulate the latest group of students to complete Education into Enterprise work placements, and to welcome three mentors to the project team.
“By sharing their experience of work-based training the mentors can provide support and valuable insights to each student as they develop their own employability skills.”
To date approximately 120 students have undertaken work-related project placements across a range of local and national employers. They have benefited from gaining work experience and developing key career related skills.
As part of the final phase of the project, three student mentors with experience of work-based learning projects – Mo Hu, Kevin Judge and Melissa Rookes – have been recruited.
Education into Enterprise is a collaboration between the University of Abertay Dundee, Adam Smith, Dundee, Elmwood, Forth Valley, James Watt and West Lothian Colleges, in partnership with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
It is funded by the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council with the aim of leaving a sustainable legacy of strengthened links with employers and industry and embedding relevant education and student work-based learning opportunities within academic curricula.
