I have been working as a post-production editor and mixer, a production field mixer, writing jingles for commercials and radio and an A.V technician. Within these roles, I have been fortunate enough to work on BBC Top Gear, National Geographic Outback Wrangler, local & inter-state companies for TV production shows and many more. I have been shortlisted and won awards at (small) international film festivals for post-audio productions and finally got myself an IMDB page! This aside, it is a very difficult, competitive industry and I have to be fully committed to accepting all the highs and the lows that accompany it.
Abertay is a constantly growing university. Being from Dundee I remember growing up as a child seeing the library getting built, the students union grow and become a popular place to go. Even though I live in Australia now, Dundee will always be my home. I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this had it not been for the help and guidance of the University, the course I studied and in particular the excellent lecturers.
Never give up. It’s a tough difficult industry to work in but there are many different areas for careers whether it’s in game audio, post production audio, field recording, dubbing mixers, etc. Don’t limit yourself to what you are currently good at. Constantly challenge yourself and put yourself out of your comfort zone. I’m sure you’ll be surprised at what you find out.
