General tips on CV writing

  • Your CV should be 2 sides of A4 - no more.
  • Print it on good quality, white paper.
  • Use bullet points and highlighting.
  • Target it to a specific occupational area.
  • Make it interesting to read and attractive to look at.
  • Base your CV on your skills and try to match them to the skills required by the employer.
  • Don't leave any time unaccounted for.
  • Allocate space on your CV according to the relevance of information to the employer.
  • Your CV should reflect your personality.
  • Always accompany it with a covering letter.
  • Have it checked over by your Careers Adviser.
