Reference requests
1. I need a reference for employment or further study – what should I do?
Student Records & Registry do not hold information which would
allow us to complete a request for a personal reference for you. This
includes information on suitability for employment, timekeeping and
attendance. Please note that the University Registrar does not hold
information which would allow completion of a personal reference. You
should ask a member of staff, for example your personal or year tutor,
if he/she is willing to act as a referee for you. By doing so, you are
telling that person that you are permitting him/her to release
information about you. Please make sure that you give any potential
employer the name and contact details of the member of staff who has
agreed to provide the reference. If that member of staff is no longer
employed by the University, you should identify and contact another
current member of staff.
2. I've used "the University" as a referee – what will happen?
Most
of these type of requests come through Student Records, Registry. The
request will be held until you contact us with the name and contact
details of the person who has agreed to provide a reference for you.
3. So if you get a reference request will you contact me?
No.
We do not retain current contact information for former students so
cannot contact you directly. If you have used the Universty as a
referee without providing the name and contact information for the
individual who has agreed to act as a referee, it is your
responsibility to contact us and ask us to forward the request for you.
