About Abertay

FAQs

1. I haven’t received an orientation pack. Why not?

You will receive an Orientation pack only once you have firmly accepted an offer of a place which is unconditional. If you are still to firmly accept an unconditional offer (either via UCAS or otherwise for direct applicants), your pack will not yet have been generated. If you still have conditions to meet your pack will not have been generated.

2. What does the Orientation pack contain?

Registry is issuing the first part of the Orientation pack to those who firmly accept an unconditional offer between now and 30 June 2010. This pack contains:

  • your welcome letter
  • your student ID form
  • an Abertay newsletter containing information about University accommodation
  • a prepaid return envelope

3. . . . and then what happens?

In mid- to late August, if you have already received a part pack you will receive the remaining information, including the university student guide and more detailed information on Orientation. If you firmly accept an unconditional offer on or after 30 June 2010 you will receive a full pack in a single mailing in August.

4. I have forgotten my OASIS username and/or password.  How do I get this?

Your OASIS username is your Abertay Student ID number which was emailed to you when you first applied and is also on all letters sent to you.  If you still cannot find your OASIS username then email regadmin@abertay.ac.uk with your full name and date of birth.

If your password does not work, please click the Forgotten Password facility.  Alternatively, please contact regadmin@abertay.ac.uk stating your Student ID number requesting your password to be reset.

5. How long after firmly accepting an offer does it take for a pack to be prepared?

At this time of year, packs are prepared once per week.

6. How are packs sent?

Packs for UK and EU students will be issued second class via Royal Mail.
Packs for overseas students are issued electronically to your contact email address.

7. How long should it take for my pack to arrive?

UK packs should arrive no more than seven days after issue.
EU packs should arrive no more than 14 days after issue.

8. Can I check whether or not my pack has been issued?

Please see the above information on when you might expect your pack to arrive once you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer.

If your pack has not arrived within ten days of your firm acceptance of an unconditional offer, please contact us by email on regadmin@abertay.ac.uk or by telephone on +44 (0)1382 308045.

9. How can I apply for accommodation?

Please see our accommodation pages.

10. I've lost my Orientation pack – what should I do?

The information contained within your welcome letter can be found on the Orientation website.

If you have lost your student ID form, you can submit your photograph to us electronically. Alternatively, please post a passport sized photograph to Registry, Kydd Building, University of Abertay, Dundee, DD1 1HG with a note confirming your full name, address, date of birth and the course to which you have applied.

Alternatively, please click below to request that your Orientation pack be re-issued. You must include your full name, date of birth, address and the course which you will be joining. Remember that you can expect to receive this in roughly the same time as it took for your original pack to be delivered.

11. I want to use the online forms but have been asked for my student number. How do I get this?

On the front page, you'll find the 'Get Student Number' button. This will send us your request for your unique identifier which we will issue via email, once you have answered a number of security questions.

Your unique identifier will be issued only if you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer at the University. Without this you cannot access the online forms.

12. What happens when I get here?

International Student Week is the week commencing 6 September 2010. For more details on this please contact the International Student Advisor, Hazel Petrie.

Orientation Week is the week commencing 13 September 2010.

In August, your Orientation Pack will contain a timetable of your Orientation Week. You should attend all the events on your timetable as it will help with your transition into university life. There will be other events that are voluntary such as social get-togethers with staff and other students. Try to attend them if you can - they are a good way of getting to know people and finding out more about the University and Dundee.

13. What should I do if I have a disability or special need(s)?
