One of the works by winning artist Calum McClure
Paintings by the winners of the Jolomo Bank of Scotland Awards 2011 for Scottish landscape painting are to be unveiled to the public this Friday (9th September) at the University of Abertay Dundee.
Abertay University’s Hannah Maclure Centre gallery, on the top floor of the Student Centre, will host the opening ceremony from 6-8pm on Friday.
The exhibition then runs weekdays from Monday 12th to Friday 23rd September, 10am – 5pm.
The awards, which are sponsored by the Bank of Scotland, were established by the renowned artist and Abertay Honorary Graduate Dr John Lowrie Morrison OBE in 2006 to support, encourage and promote the painting of the Scottish landscape.
First prize winner Calum McClure, who receives £25,000 and support for the development of his career, said: “Winning the award has given me a huge amount of freedom to concentrate on my work.
“I am currently arranging trips to the Borders where I hope to find a new approach to working."
With total prize money of £35,000, the Jolomo Awards are among the most important painting prizes in the UK.
Michael Wheatley, Chief Executive of the Jolomo Foundation, added: "We really welcome the opportunity to exhibit work in Dundee by the winners and artists shortlisted for this year's Jolomo Bank of Scotland Awards for landscape painting.
“We are hugely grateful to Abertay University for accommodating this exhibition in the Hannah Maclure Centre.
“I do hope that the exhibition will let people see for themselves the wonderful depth of talented artists we have, demonstrating that the future of Scottish landscape painting is in good hands."
The other featured artists are Susie Lee, Beth Robertson Fiddes, Katie Pope and Allan J Robertson.
