Abertay University Annual Prizegiving Ceremony

Dozens of students and former students will gather at the University of Abertay Dundee this evening (Thursday 27th November) for the annual Prizegiving Ceremony, held on the eve of the November Graduation Ceremony.

Accompanied by friends and families, the prizewinners will be welcomed by Professor Mary Malcolm, Vice-Principal (Academic Development). They will then receive their awards from Professor Bernard King CBE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Abertay University.

A total of 78 students are receiving prizes which cover the full range of disciplines taught at the University.

Several new awards are being introduced this year including: the Sword Prize for Sport, the Family Law Association Prize for Family Law, the Millard Consulting Prize, the Intercytex Prize, NCR Network Security Prize, the Roche Diagnostics Prize and the Tayside Contracts Prize.

The other awards are supported by individuals, local, national and international organisations and the University of Abertay Dundee itself, and include prizes established in memory of former students and prominent members of the community.

Many of the organisations and individuals who sponsor individual prizes will also be in tonight’s audience.

Professor King said: “Prizegiving is an important event in the University’s calendar because it honours those who have performed exceptionally well in their studies. On behalf of the University, I warmly congratulate all the prize-winners this evening.

“I am delighted that we have been able to introduce an additional seven awards this year. This is testament to the excellent relationships
that the University enjoys with the world of business, industry and the public services.

“Many of our prizes and awards are donated by companies and organisations with which the University enjoys links through consultancy work or through other collaborative ventures.

“We value greatly such partnerships, from local employers to national and international businesses and also with professional organisations, and I thank most warmly each of the donors for their support in this way of the University, its purpose, its courses, and especially its students.”
