Scotland’s up and coming writers and animators came together in Dundee recently to attend the annual Animation Finishing School at Abertay University.
Award winning American animator Yvette Kaplan, who has worked on Hollywood Blockbuster Ice Age and cult favourite Beavis and Butthead, mentored the two day workshop entitled ‘Creating and Defining Memorable Characters’.
The Animation Finishing School, developed by Abertay University and Perthshire-based Mark Grindle Associates, aims to help Scotland’s animators and screen writers to work together to create and develop their own products and form new digital media companies around them.
An animated production which was the result of collaborations stemming from last year’s Finishing School has been nominated for an award at next year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Participants attending the workshop included representation from some of the most dynamic and innovative companies in Scotland, as well as trainees from Scottish Screen’s New Animation Talent scheme and high-level freelance screenwriters.
