Rag Week Rolls Around at Abertay

NEWS RELEASE

Rag Week Rolls Around at Abertay
8 February 2008

Students at the University of Abertay Dundee are pulling out all the stops for their first full-scale Rag Week which kicks off on Monday 11 February 2008.

By the look of the programme of events it’s going to be a week to remember, particularly for the four local charities that will benefit from the fundraising fun.

There’s a lot of entertainment and a Valentines Day cake sale on offer and throughout the week six students will undertake a sponsored mini-triathlon of rowing, running and cycling.

Vice President of the Students’ Association, Aidan Kavanagh said: “We had a smaller scale Rag Week last year and it was a great success. So this year we decided to put more effort in and we’re sure it’s going to pay off.

“We’re having a cake sale on Valentines Day and we’re appealing to staff and students to donate cakes for this event.

“In the mini-triathlon participants will row, run and cycle distances equivalent to the length of the Tay Bridge, from the University to Alloway Halls and the around the green cycle path in Dundee respectively.

“We can’t rely on the weather so all the participants will complete the triathlon in the new University gym.

“There are loads of other events including something for just about everyone from the quiz and raffle to the Anti Valentine night, when the Rock Society will be offering an alternative to the romance, and Bond-themed casino night.

“We’ve set ourselves a target of £1500 to raise and we’ll be donating the money to four local charities.”
