Here Come the Hurricanes

NEWS RELEASE
30 January 2008

The night of the Superbowl – American football’s biggest and best competition – is traditionally focused on the football and having fun.

At Abertay the Students’ Association and the Dundee Hurricanes have teamed up for a second year to hold a fundraising night for Radio Tay’s charity Caring for Kids.

On Sunday 3 February, as two of America’s most formidable football teams – the New England Patriots and the New York Giants - go head to head, the Student’s Centre will throw its doors open for a night of fundraising fun including a raffle, quiz and, of course, the Superbowl.

Aidan Kavanagh from the Students’ Association said: “We’re planning a fun-filled evening with a serious goal – to raise as much as possible for Caring for Kids.

“It all kicks off at 8.00pm and there’s a three pounds entry fee which, along with all the other money raised, will be donated to Caring for Kids.

“Players from the Dundee Hurricanes will be there to lend their support, watch the game and to tuck into hotdogs and popcorn.

“We held a similar event last year which was very successful and I’m confident we can top that this time around.”

The Hurricanes head of fundraising, Stephen Cook, added: “The Hurricanes have been long-term supporters of Caring for Kids.

“Everyone in the team was very keen to take part in our second Superbowl fundraising night with the Abertay students.

“In recent years we’ve been committed to raising funds for Caring for Kids through a number of events.

“We’ve all worked hard to make sure the Superbowl night is a success and I’m hopeful that this will be our most lucrative fundraiser yet.”

Paul Smith, Chairman of Caring for Kids said: “We are delighted that the Abertay Students’ Association and the Dundee Hurricanes continue to support Caring for Kids.

“Without the funds we receive from events such as this we would be unable to assist as many children as we do. For those reasons we are very grateful for their ongoing support.”
