Business students from the University of Abertay Dundee are proving more than a match for their rivals in a national competition.
All three teams from the University’s Dundee Business School that entered the prestigious IBM Universities Business Challenge have made it to the semi finals.
The competition is the number one business simulation competition for UK undergraduates looking for the challenge of a lifetime.
In order to secure their place in the semi’s the Abertay students competed in a pool of 72 teams from universities across the UK.
In round one the teams were tasked with making decisions designed to improve the performance of a business.
Their conclusions were submitted via the Internet and the best were chosen to participate in one of nine one-day semi-finals sponsored by a range of international companies including Procter and Gamble, BAE Systems and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The teams have got their sights set on the live Grand Final in London at the end of February but first they have to make it through the semis which are being held across the country over the next two weeks.
Team AT4, led by Simon Ross, is all set to face the challenge of the Newcastle semi final, sponsored by worldwide household products manufacturer Procter and Gamble, where they’ll meet teams from across the UK.
Simon, an Accounting student from Aberdeen, said: “My team is going to Newcastle so we won’t have to compete directly with other Abertay teams, until we get to the final that is. We’ve all had a great time and can’t wait to see what challenges the next round brings.”
Anneka Chaudhry, a Business and Finance student from Dundee is the leader of team AS3. She’s off to the Edinburgh semi with her team and said: “The first round was a great experience with lots of challenges.
“I’m delighted that all the Abertay teams got through and I’m looking forward to meeting the other team at the semis in Edinburgh.”
Team leader of AF7, Pawel Janczak from Poznan, Poland who is studying Accounting with Finance said: “Our team worked very hard in the first round and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. We’re hoping to get to the finals in London and enjoy the experience as much as possible.”
