NEWS RELEASE
Abertay Artist Was One of Florence Four
18 January 2008
2007 was a good year for Dundee-based portrait artist Clare Brennan.
Her passion for painting paid off when she was chosen as one of the country’s most successful young achievers and won a place on the prestigious The Observer Future 500 networking group in the art and design category.
Clare, who works as a gallery assistant at Abertay University’s Hannah Maclure Centre, is all set for a busy year thanks to her inclusion in the list and a new exhibition of her work.
The exhibition at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design will showcase work produced by Clare and three other artists during a three month stay in Florence on the RSA John Kinross Scholarship in 2006.
The “Four in Florence” exhibition opens with a champagne launch on Friday 18 January and will run until Saturday 9 February.
The exhibition coincides with the relaunch of Clare’s website and she’s hoping 2008 will be just as good as last year.
Clare said: “I’ve had a really hectic few months, it’s been incredible.
“Being chosen as one of the Future 500 was a real honour and I’m hoping it will open up new opportunities for me and my work.
“The Four in Florence exhibition is something I’m really looking forward to. I was fortunate to win a place on the scholarship programme and I had a great time.
“Florence is a very inspirational city and I am very pleased that the work I produced is part of this exhibition.
“My new website is just about to be launched and that will give people the opportunity to see more of my paintings and drawings.
“As long as I can have the opportunity to keep doing what I love I’ll be happy.”
