Prizewinners gather at Abertay
NEWS RELEASE
29 November
Dozens of students and former students will gather at the University of Abertay Dundee this evening (Thursday 29 November) for the annual Prizegiving Ceremony, held on the eve of the November Graduation Ceremony.
Accompanied by friends and families, the prizewinners will be welcomed by Professor Bernard King CBE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Abertay University. They will then receive their awards from Professor John Palfreyman, Deputy Principal (Academic Development).
A total of 70 students are receiving 75 prizes covering the full range of disciplines taught at the University. There are two new prizes this year.
The Honorary Fellows Prize for Innovation has been donated by the Honorary Fellows of the University, and is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the School of Contemporary Sciences, has demonstrated ‘innovation’ in project or course work from the Natural Resources Management course and who is deemed worthy of recognition.
The second new prize this year is the Scottish Hydraulics Study Group Undergraduate Prize for the fourth year student submitting the best honours project in the area of Civil Engineering Hydraulics.
The other awards are supported by individuals, local and national organisations and the University of Abertay Dundee itself, and include prizes established in memory of former students and prominent local people.
Professor King said: “Prizegiving is an important event in the University’s calendar because it especially honours those who have performed exceptionally well in their studies. On behalf of the University, I warmly congratulate all this evening’s prize-winners.
“The ceremony also recognises the relationship the University has with the world of business, industry and the public services.
“Many of our prizes and awards are donated by companies and organisations with which the University enjoys links through consultancy work or through other collaborative ventures.
“We value greatly such partnerships, from local employers to national and international businesses and also with professional organisations, very highly indeed, and I thank most warmly each of the donors for their support in this way of the University, its purpose, its courses, and especially its students.”
