Mission and vision
Abertay is committed to being an excellent university, equal to the
best in Scotland and making its own unique contribution to society...
Mission - why we exist
Our mission is to provide a distinctive and high-quality university
education that empowers our graduates socially, culturally and
economically, and to generate new knowledge and learning that
reinforces national competitiveness.
Values - what we believe in
We will grow and develop as an academic community dedicated to
fostering self-confidence, ambition, leadership, passion and success.
We will achieve and promote these values through:
- being open and attuned to the potential of all who can benefit from or contribute to the Abertay experience
- exploring
and exploiting the ‘White Space’ interfaces between disciplines so as to
create and transmit new knowledge and learning in new ways
Strategic priorities - how we will realise our vision
Our primary aim is to add value to Scottish higher education, and to
society and the economy at large, by meeting the educational and
knowledge transfer needs of industry, commerce, the professions and the
public services. We will achieve this aim through:
- becoming a world-class teaching institution providing a
provocative and inspiring learning environment in which students will
develop entrepreneurial spirit, creative flair, professional skills and
breadth of knowledge. These are the qualities they will need to be
able to exploit emergent technologies, to contribute to and lead
business creation and growth, and to enhance and strengthen public
services
- developing world-class research strengths in those areas
where we can make a unique and high value contribution. This will be
our contribution to helping society address the challenges posed by a
global knowledge economy, accelerating technological development,
societal and cultural evolution, and environmental change
