About Abertay

Graduation day

The graduation ceremony will start at 11.00am and will last for approximately 1 - 1.5 hours.

The ceremony will start promptly so we would ask that graduands and their guests are seated at least 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Late arrivals will not be admitted to the Hall once the ceremony has started.

University staff will be on hand to show graduands to their seats, so please have your seat identification number ready. Once seated, it is very important that you do not change places with anyone for any reason.

Receiving your award

At the appropriate time University staff will guide you towards the stage and assist you in putting your hood on. It is important to remain in the order in which you were seated. You will be guided up the stairs on to the stage and when you name is called you will walk across the stage, pause in front of the Chancellor who will then cap you. You will continue to the other side of the stage where you will receive your certificate holder. Please leave the stage through the door at the side of the stage and proceed into the corridor where you will receive your certificate before returning to your seat.

When the ceremony is finished, the platform party will leave the stage and process down the centre aisle. Graduates will join the rear of the academic procession as directed by University staff.

Celebratory refreshments

Refreshments will be provided after the Ceremony for you and your guests in the Marryat Hall or either of the café venues within the Caird Hall.
